Josie's Blog

Welcome to my blog!:)

About Me

Hi everyone! This is Josie, the only international student in class! I am a 18 years old Hong Kong girl. My electives in secondary school were Chinese literature, Chinese history and world history–nothing related to social science! And my English is actually not really good so please don’t mind if I misheard you!:P

I hope the coming three years will not be too tough for me!._.

Although I am still young, I have already planned to travel around the world after I retired. I want to explore the world instead of trapping myself in a corner of the world. Beautiful scenery, delicious food and cute people can keep me away from my addiction to smart phone. Having a vacation is always a good chance to relax.

Don’t know what’s your first impression about me. Most of my friends said that they thought I am a quiet girl but after they know me more, they wanted to make me dumb. “Can you please keep quiet? How can you talk for so long?” I frequently get these comments from my friends. So if someday you find me noisy or even mad, congratulations (or I should say unfortunately), we are good friends now!:D

Why do I come?

I heard lots of “why”s since I have decided to leave. “Why do you have to leave hong kong?” “Why do you choose Singapore?””Why psychology?” When I arrived here alone, staying at a place that I didn’t even travelled before, I also asked myself why. I am not an adventurous person and I actually hate changes. The only reason I can think of is that I want to have an extraordinary life. Of course nowadays studying aboard isn’t rare but for me, a timid girl, this is definitely a challenge.

Why psychology?

I am a Chinese and I love the language Chinese. To me, it is the most beautiful language and I had dreamt to be an expert of Chinese. But then I found that I may not be able to reach there and I give it up. No worries, there are still lots of chance for me to explore more about Chinese and I am still passionate about it. Maybe it can be my hobby?

At this moment I don’t actually have a hobby but I do love reading and it somehow changes me. I have read some books about criminal psychology few years ago. The skills that the psychologist used to solve the criminal cases amazed me. I once had a thought of ‘maybe I could do the same—maybe I could also use my skills to rescue people and make the world a better place.’ Sounds naive but I bet most of us had dreamt to be a “superhero”! However few years ago I was still having a “Chinese expert dream” and I quickly forget about psychology. Luckily this time I grab the opportunity to study psychology. Maybe at last I would once again discover that I am not capable in this subject but as long as I have tried, I would have no regret.

How BCM 110 might help?

Technology is being more and more advanced. People nowadays cannot live without internet and it actually links people up. By studying this subject we might be able to understand people’s behavior and the reasons behind their action. For example, why did a person post up negative post frequently? Is that related to his or her current situation? Would this lead to his or her mental health problem? Both media and psychology are things around us and they actually have some relations. I believe that studying this subject could help us to have a better idea of what psychology is and how it works.

  1. Hey Josie! I didn’t have the opportunity to speak to you in any of our classes but I’m Nad! I thought you were a quiet & reserved person but after reading this post I guess we as a class need to peel you like an orange in order to get the talkative Josie? HAHAHA, no pressure. I’ve never met someone who has such a deep interest in Chinese literature because usually, my Chinese friends would tell me how the Chinese language (not too sure if its anyhow related to Chinese literature) is such a dread to learn but after listening to you & Alexandra Serenti briefly speaking about in class, I’m intrigued! I look forward to you sharing more about it 🙂 Speaking of criminal psychology, I’m a huge fan of criminal psychology too! I would recommend you to watch Mindhunter on Netflix, I personally feel it’s a great tv series on criminal psychology – watching it gives you chills down your spine.

Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you more as a fellow peer Josie!

  4. Hi Josie!

Loved reading your blog and looking at all the pictures you’ve attached along with it!

I’m so happy you’ve come to Singapore to study. It must have taken a lot of strength to come to a new country and start fresh. I really hope you get to live the adventurous life you want to live in these coming years!

I listened to you speak about studying Chinese in another class we have and I watched you demonstrate writing the characters. It was really beautiful! I would love to learn more from you about it because it really is fascinating.

I hope you have a good semester ahead and you keep being so smiley. If you need help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask.

    xoxo
